See the gallery at the end of this article for a view of the back of the box as well as a comparison with the UCS Y-wing released exactly two years ago. While the outer packaging has gotten a decidedly streamlined look with a shift in emphasis from action-based play to adult-oriented model-building, not much has changed about the format of the instruction book. The one brand new LEGO piece in this set is the unique new canopy for the cockpit.

The first bag produces nothing but a Technic frame with an internal mechanism for flipping the laser cannons back and forth. These subassemblies use more Technic to invert upper and lower directions, leaving a visible gap between the top and bottom. These then attach to Technic pins on the square core, fleshing out the overall width.

Bags 5 and 6 provide the parts for the large engines that give the A-wing such a high power-to-weight ratio and therefore thrust. Each engine is its own subassembly that slots onto the back of the Technic core. One of our other contributors got them to attach solidly on his copy but only after some struggle.

The next two bags include the parts for the curved sections on either side of the red nose section. These sections attach via ball joints and are pinned in place with 3L bar pieces, leaving me to wonder how disassembly will work should I choose to part this out into my collection later. The cockpit comes together with the parts from Bag 9. Applying stickers to clear canopies can be particularly challenging — thus the shuddering dread I immediately felt upon opening the box, when I saw the unprinted canopy accompanied by a sticker sheet.

However, the three separate stickers that make up the black frame details on the trans-clear canopy piece went on without much of a hitch. The upper sections of the vertical stabilizers are built from the parts in the second-to-last bag, along with the stand. Since the A-wing has no landing gear to hold it up, the lower sections of the stabilizers are built last and attached with the stand in place, thus completing the build.

When complete, this LEGO A-wing has a significant heft to it, making it impossible to mistake it merely for an over-sized minifig-scale version, like Resistance A-wing released ahead of The Rise of Skywalker last year, or the many earlier Rebel A-wings going all the way back to The complexity of the interior structure pays off with the compound curves built from slopes attached sideways and upside down.

As a result, the fighter looks great from just about any angle. The canopy fits snugly over the cockpit, with a fuselage section behind it that continues the sleek shape. Although assembled and attached to the body together, the actual canopy detaches from the fuselage easily enough to take a closer look inside. At last, one of the most awaited Original Trilogy starfighters receives the long over-due treatment in ! This 1,piece model celebrates the diminutive and sleek starfighter, just in time for Star Wars Day The first thing that struck is the gorgeous box design.

I also like cool little flourishes like the Rebel logo above the nameplate, and overall, I really like how premium, and mature it looks.

The iconic arrowhead shape of the A-Wing is captured beautifully at this scale, which has allowed the designers to really focus on getting the angles and proportion just right. I really like the design of the thrusters, and how great the entire model looks like from the back.

But can you really put a wrong price on a special collectible item? Usually LEGO only launches one product from this lineup each year with a few exceptions where two have been released in the span of the same year. This ship appears for the first time as a UCS version.

This is an incredibly fast ship. Faster even than the TIE Fighter. According to the lore, it spans 6. The LEGO model, however, is bigger. It spans for 9. Hans admits that often the simplest designs cause the most trouble to the LEGO designers. The author did his research thoroughly, though. That shows in the rotating guns sitting on the left and right side of the cockpit. According to the lore, some A-Wings models were constructed with a degree rotating guns, while the most only offered 60 degree turning during fight.

The model is built on a technic frame, which is somewhat standard practice. Hans teases that things get more complicated and exciting once you start working on the items that get attached on the side and the back of the core of the ship. The UCS series are often over blowing the models with details. I still love the pilot seat, despite its bulkiness.

It contains pieces and is labeled as item The size of the complete model is 27cm high, including the display stand beneath the ship. The A-Wing is 42cm long and 26cm wide. I doubt you will have any trouble finding it on Amazon or anywhere else you shop for your LEGOs once it releases on May 1st of In my opinion, which I slipped through the text here and there already, I think that this is a good model and an interesting-looking ship, but it does not capture the A-Wing style for me.

I believe they overdid it a bit in their attempts to include as many LEGO parts as possible. The above images were sourced from the linked YouTube video.Your feedback is only shown to the creator as well as yourself. It is not available for other users to see. The creator won't see your user name.
